STOLPER + FRIENDS gallery presents an exhibition of new works by prominent young Norwegian artist Nicolay Aamodt.

The exhibition comprises 10 paintings varying from 60cm circular works to large format 200 x 120cm oil paintings.  The artist also presents works on paper, offering Aamodt’s signature style in a new medium.

Aamodt is widely known for his references to both popular culture and more traditional iconic images from the history of art.  Thematically, this body of works continues to explore the artist's interest in borrowed elements presented in a new context together with his fascination with the human form.

Nicolay Aamodt Lives and works in Oslo.  He studied Illustration and Fine Art at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where he developed a unique signature style, layering images and text gleaned from both popular culture and historical art references.  Aamodt has exhibited widely across Norway, and his works appear in both private and business collections. He has been awarded several important grants and a nomination for the prestigious Carnegie Art Award.

PAUL STOLPER is pleased to announce the launch of their new gallery, STOLPER + FRIENDS, opening on September 1st, 2011 in Oslo, Norway. Opened in partnership with long-time collaborators Magne Furuholmen and Hugo Opdal, the gallery is located in the newly thriving arts district of Tjuvholmen near the city centre of Oslo. Historically a dockland and on the sea front, the Tjuvholmen has been newly revived from its industrial past. STOLPER + FRIENDS is one of a few galleries that is spearheading the area’s cultural development. Due to open in 2012, the acclaimed Astrup-Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is also relocating to Tjuvholmen with a stunning new building designed by Renzo Piano.

STOLPER + FRIENDS will launch on September 1st, 2011. The 2011 season will include exhibitions from their stable of contemporary internationally recognised artists as well as leading Norwegian artists. The inaugural exhibition is a stunning group of prints by Damien Hirst entitled ‘The Souls’: a series of shimmering foil-block butterflies. The first group exhibition at STOLPER + FRIENDS is 'SNAP – THE PORTFOLIO', opening in October, a unique collection of large-scale prints by twelve internationally acclaimed British artists including: Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume, Don Brown, Darren Almond, Cerith Wyn Evans and Juergen Teller. 'SNAP – THE PORTFOLIO' will be a rare opportunity to view both new prints and unique works by leading YBAs rarely shown in Norway.

STOLPER + FRIENDS proudly stands as a concrete manifestation of years of creative collaboration. Other artists to be exhibited in the coming season include Nicolay Aamodt, Peter Blake, Darren Coffield, Keith Coventry, Susie Hamilton, Sarah Hardacre, Rachel Howard, Claire Pestaille, Peter Saville, Gavin Turk, Håvard Vikhagen and the artist collective Apparatjik.
